The threat of militant and non-militant transport groups to paralyze public transportation has always failed. No matter how big the threat, the effects of such “big” strikes have been minimal. Our thanks go to our policemen, soldiers and government as a whole. They have always done their best to help ease the situation when such strikes are held. The police keep the peace, soldiers provide army trucks to ferry commuters whose only desire is to reach their different destinations—schools, workplace, etc.—and be able to fulfill their everyday responsibilities and other daily important activities and routines.
This is the reason why commuters like me, who brave scorching sun, rain and heavy traffic, no longer worry about transport strikes. There’s always the “Libreng Sakay” and law enforcers are always vigilant and on the lookout for troublemakers from the ranks of the strikers or provocateurs.
Our thanks of course go to the government. As it is, no transport strike will ever succeed—for such strikes wreak havoc on the populace, hamper business, create confusion and disturb the peace. Again, thanks to all the government agencies who lend their helping hand to commuters.
