This refers to Asuncion David Maramba’s September 19 column: “Manila and Calamba—the twain must meet.” We thank her for the exposé on the shenanigans at the Calamba Register of Deeds.
The same thing is happening at the Antipolo Register of Deeds. I filed an Affidavit of Adverse Claim last May 2010 to prevent the sale of the family’s properties by unscrupulous persons.
After many follow-ups, I was finally able to have the titles annotated in August 2011—more than 15 months later. Some reasons given to me by an examiner: “Hindi pa makita ang title”;
“Birthday ni boss, nagluto pa ako”; “Hindi ko alam kung aalis si boss ngayon, eh. Kailangan ang approval niya.”
The funny thing is that when I was having the affidavit notarized last year at a notary public nearby, the clerk asked me, out of the blue: “Hiningan ba kayo?” This was the first time I went to this notary public, I didn’t know him, and this was the first time that the clerk ever saw me.
