What’s the point of celebrating Edsa?

04:00 AM February 28, 2020

Every year, we find ourselves struggling to justify our lack of interest in celebrating Edsa. For this year, we chose to hide our disinterest behind the cloak of the scare of COVID-19 and the recent eruption of Taal Volcano, no matter how lame they are, to excuse ourselves from even remembering the occasion. Deep within us, perhaps we do not see the value of Edsa. Edsa freed us from the hell of dictatorship, but restored and fostered oligarchy in the country. Filipinos are still in pain. We cannot blame the people for not appreciating an event that only benefited the rich, the powerful, and the elite.
