Surrender arms, stop the killings

I agree with presidential peace adviser Carlito Galvez when he said that before the resumption of any peace talks between the Communist Party of the Philippines and the Philippine government happens, the rebels must first walk the talk. They need to be sincere and let their members surrender their firearms.

A prerequisite to peace negotiations is that the rebels should stop the killings of indigenous peoples and civilians. How can we talk about peace when the other party continues to violate the rights of the people and create destruction in our communities?

Once and for all, we need to see a clear manifestation on their part to really be in sync with the government’s efforts to attain lasting peace for the country.
