This is in connection with three articles (“9 dead in Rizal 3-vehicle road crash,”“2 cops dead, 4 hurt as pickup truck overshoots in Zamboanga Sibugay,”and “2 dead after truck plows thru 12 vehicles in Cavite”) posted on Inquirer.net last Dec. 17.
The three accidents occurred within 24 hours. They were caused either by human negligence, recklessness, the ignorance or disobedience of traffic laws and regulations by many drivers, the inability of traffic officials to enforce traffic laws and regulations, or the poor maintenance of vehicles to ensure they are road-worthy.
In one of my visits to the country, I saw slow-moving tricycles drive on the fast lane instead of using the safer lane on the right side of the road, forcing fast-moving cars, jeeps, buses and trucks to use the right lane.
This disregard for road safety and traffic regulations has caused many accidents that have resulted in deaths. Why is this being tolerated?
