Incompetence of gov’t lawyers

I protest in the strongest possible terms how the Marcoses have again been allowed to keep their ill-gotten wealth of P200 billion. This is the fourth case we Filipinos have lost big time.

As our consuelo de bobo, the Sandiganbayan acknowledged the humongous plunder committed by the Marcoses. Yet, it claims it is prevented from deciding in favor of the Filipino people because the Presidential Commission on Good Government failed to present original or authenticated documents.

Instead, the agency presented photocopies that were faded and no longer readable, thanks to the decades these documents had languished in storage.

Apart from the incompetence and carelessness of our government prosecutors, Solicitor General Jose Calida, a known supporter of the Marcos family, was appointed to handle $5-million worth of bank assets when the Sandiganbayan dismissed the forfeiture case last year.

This is conflict of interest, plain and simple. A decent official would have recused himself from going after the Marcos loot, but what can you expect from Calida?

Remember that his security agency is currently servicing several government institutions for a reported sum of P358.3 million. He seems to thrive in situations involving conflicts of interest.
