What a shame! After more than two weeks of good work, President Duterte fired Vice President Leni Robredo as cochair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs, in one of the most blatant and corrupt exercises of governmental power since the Marcos martial law.
Hopefully, Robredo will now take the offensive but keep her debate at a high level and not dive into the muddy bottom of the Pasig River like her detractors. Stopping the drug trade by killing off the users is like cutting weeds off at ground level and leaving the roots intact; the weeds just grow back. Exposing and identifying the high-value dealers and drug lords and prosecuting them are the only ways to make these vermin retreat. The extrajudicial killings in the drug war have only angered many Filipinos and made the Philippines the laughingstock of the world.
Robredo is truly an asset and patriot for the country. Subjecting her to this type of political torture is both insulting and totally absurd. Hopefully, the 2022 elections will bring back a sense of stability and sanity. Only time will tell.
