We join the nation in mourning the demise of Sen. Nene Pimentel, the father of Republic Act No. 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991. The country has lost a great son, but his legacy lives on.
Pimentel was a towering giant and champion of local governments. He not only authored RA 7160, he also championed the cause and interest of all local government units (LGUs). He was a father, adviser and a friend of the LGUs.
RA 7160 enshrined and instituted the principles of devolution and decentralization, which paved the way for the true empowerment of LGUs and their constituents.
Senator Nene will always be revered and remembered.
