Every Filipino’s right to clean, safe, stable public transport
The use of public transport in the Philippines is becoming a daily challenge for commuters. It is the right of every person to have a clean, safe and stable commute going to work or school.
Yet, even as Filipinos have been very vocal with ideas on how to improve the state of our transport system, with UP students even reportedly willing to help research solutions to the crisis, they have not been entertained by the government.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said there is no mass transport crisis, in effect denying the sorry state our public transport system is in.
Article continues after this advertisementThe latest quality of life index published by Deutsche Bank ranked Manila 54th out of 56 countries. One of the factors measured was the traffic congestion.
The government should focus on solving this problem. The solution can’t be done in one day, but if immediate action is taken now, the daily struggles of Filipinos will at least be eased.
