Pittance for retiring non-generals

04:02 AM October 16, 2019

Ed Laguerta, resident volcanologist at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology in Legazpi City, retires after 40 years of watching over the fiery Bicol volcanoes, including the sometimes violent and deadly Mayon — many times as a lone wolf.

Where is the “pabaon” or hefty retirement benefit given to a retired general, that should really be given to a man who has soldiered on?

Then again, did we ever care for government scientists, those people who are “baliw na baliw sa research” but are the actual reasons why our policies and programs stand on solid ground?
