Gender equality does not mean toilet equality. It’s a matter of sensibilities.
Why the time-honored separation of toilets for females and for males? Because females are uncomfortable sharing toilets with males, whether they are straight or gay.
However, generally, females do not mind lesbians using the women’s toilet. This shows that providing separate toilets for males and females is not discriminatory to transgenders.
I hope the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (Sogie) Equality Bill, if it passes, will not give transgenders more rights and privileges than the “straights.”
That would be discriminatory. Laws must respect sensibilities. Sensibilities cannot be legislated.
