Height matters in basketball

We Filipinos should realize now that height is really might in basketball. The lopsided losses our team Gilas suffered in the Fiba against the various basketball teams from Europe, Africa and Asia is primarily because of the height advantage of players from other countries.

We have seen how a 6-foot-1-inch or 6-foot-2-inch player could hardly stop his rival with a 6-foot-5-inch height from easily making a jump shot, while the latter can certainly thwart the former from doing a jump shot.

We have to level up the playing field by eliminating the disadvantage in height of our players. We need to organize a basketball team with players having a minimum height of at least 6’4” or 6’5” and maximum height of 6’10” to 7’ and above.

Then train them on ball handling, how to penetrate and shoot at medium and 3-point range distance from the ring, to achieve a high percentage of making the basket.
