Girls do better than gossip and envy

Dear Audrey Tan-Zubiri,

I truly appreciate your Lifestyle article last Aug. 21 with the title “Teaching our daughters to not gossip or envy other girls.”

The portrayal of girls and women hurting and hating one another is indeed very disturbing. It is about time that media show respect for women. As you have shared, girls can be supportive friends, and women can be level-headed neighbors, loyal peers and faithful wives.

Film and television production companies ought to rethink female characterizations. It takes art and science to depict the reality of resilient, hard-working, selfless and honorable women amid inconveniences and difficulties.

If media giants manage to raise the level of entertainment, they will create social value in their companies, bestow happiness in families and impart behavioral impact on society.
