Isko Moreno: Rising political star

The boy who used to prowl the poorest and seediest alleys of Manila is now the mayor of the capital city. He did that by studying and arming himself for the job when he could have just relied on fame and patronage, and by beating a former president when he could have just licked the ass of a sitting president, which is the trend these days anyway.

I have been a supporter of Isko Moreno since way, way back. At the height of the Luneta hostage crisis, I accompanied then Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo to an interview in a TV station as a staff.

The then vice mayor of Manila took time to pay his respects to the embattled secretary, at a time when very few did so. That time, I saw a man who was a class of his own, someone whose gesture was not out of convenience.

I hope and pray he would be a good mayor so I would not have a problem electing him vice president or even president someday.
