Don’t be influenced by surveys

This refers to the commentary “Idealism in the time of trolls” (Opinion, 5/7/19).

I agree that “If election surveys are to be believed, proadministration ‘senatoriables’ will likely win all slots in this year’s elections.”

There is no denying that election surveys are seriously taken as persuasive tools by the electorate. They almost always vote for candidates who lead in the surveys.

One thing is sure, though: The actual poll results will be known anyway once the ballots are counted and tabulated.

Is there really a need, then, for opinion polls? Or are these
only for political trolls and operators?

Elections are honest and democratic only if voters are free and independent-minded, and are not influenced by preelection surveys.
