PH in ‘good company’
Pundits are hard put to explain senatorial candidate Lito Lapid being No. 3 in the latest surveys. While Grace Poe topping the list may be a no-brainer, Lapid’s well-entrenched spot is really a brain-racker. No one else can see what the latter’s avid fans see in his candidacy.
But come to think of it, isn’t that how democracy has always worked in this neck of the woods?
Just as intellectuals are entitled to representation in Congress — be it in the lower or upper house — so do the idiots in their midst who, alas, often outnumber them. It’s not a coincidence that a group of buffoons is called a congress!
But Filipinos should not despair, they are in good company: The United States of America, the “greatest” democratic government on this planet, has its own nincompoops in Congress.
So, knock yourselves out!
