The “taho”-splashing incident at the MRT station involving a Chinese woman and a Philippine National Police officer is a reflection of the way China treats the Philippines, particularly within the disputed West Philippine Sea.
Although the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea ruled in favor of the Philippines against China, China has refused to abide by the verdict.
China continues to build structures on unoccupied islands and harass Filipinos fishing within waters that have long been classified as part of Philippine territory.
These incidents happen under our noses, yet our top government officials choose to look the other way.
The MRT incident is not an isolated case. There have been other instances in the past, reported or not by media, where some Chinese visitors and residents disrespected or even bullied Filipinos in other places around the country.
