Abolish Road Board

05:30 AM January 01, 2019

This concerns the news “Road Board ‘must stop’ using road users’ tax funds” (12/14/18).

The road users tax is purposely to make our roads safe for road users, but look at the projects where the road users’ tax is being used. I am not an engineer, but as a traveler/driver, I think 70 percent of the projects funded by the road users’ tax in the Cordillera Region does not make our roads safe.

The best recourse is to abolish the Road Board because it is irrefutably a source of corruption. But who will absorb its responsibilities? The DPWH? It will be the same story of corruption. The LTO? It has no technical capabilities. I hope that the government can come up with a solution, because as they say, “Ginigisa ang mga tao sa sariling mantika.”
