NOW that the Supreme Court has ruled on the constitutionality of the K-to-12 program, the Department of Education must initiate an evaluation of textbooks and learners’ materials currently used in public elementary and high schools.
The appropriateness and correctness of these materials, based on content, language use and teaching strategies by experts in their own special fields, need scrutiny.
Such an evaluation is long overdue. Since a decade ago, educator and sick-books advocate Antonio Calipjo Go has been fighting relentlessly against the use of error-filled DepEd materials.
This writer has also found the three English Grade 1 materials not only error-filled, but also inappropriate for Grade 1 use, because special considerations for the second language teaching of Reading have been totally ignored in their preparation.
The K-to-12 DepEd books and learners’ materials need evaluation, now!
