‘Greatness is in our DNA’

A thought on Bonifacio Day: Greatness is a radiant thing. People would feel greatness within them if they were from the land of Shakespeare and Churchill or the land of Napoleon and Voltaire.

It extends from the source and is shared like information in the DNA.

As for ourselves, our history books and teachers always tell us to emulate our national heroes; I believe they should also say that we share in our heroes’ greatness — that, because we are Filipinos like them, it extends from them to us.

Yes, greatness is in our DNA: We are from the land of Bonifacio and Rizal and of the spirit of Edsa.

Maybe knowing this would rid many of us of the propensity for self-bashing, and drive all of us in our efforts to improve ourselves.
