The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) is not averse to a peace settlement between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). However, there are salient concerns that President Aquino should address. There are already existing agreements between the government and the MNLF: the Tripoli Agreement and the Final Peace Agreement cover 13 provinces of Mindanao. In fact, these agreements have not yet been fully implemented.
These agreements were signed under the auspices of the 57 members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). To set aside the same due to some concessions with the MILF will be treading on very risky road. There will be local and international repercussions. The government should be serious and forthright with its dealings with the two Moro fronts.
