Nice to read about baseball

It was nice to read Percy Della’s piece, “Major League Baseball a stranger in our shores,” (Inquirer.net, 10/26/18).

With most articles in sports sections devoted to basketball, it is no wonder there are no Major League Baseball scouts looking for talent in the Philippines.

My daughters grew up with one of the few little league baseball/softball programs scattered around the country before we left. But even then, basketball dominated sports media.

It would be nice to see a nationwide grassroots sports program backed up by world-class coaching and mass/social media support.

Unless that happens, our only hope for sports glory in the international stage is the current practice of scouting for Philippine roots among world-class athletes in developed countries, leaving the homegrown potential to be satisfied with e-sports video games.
