Bright people, now mindless zombies

05:01 AM October 29, 2018

Apropos Ramon Torrefranca’s letter (“Shocking contradiction between two rulings,” 10/26/18), allow me to point out the obvious: Judge Elmo Alameda was just adopting the “logic” conceived by Solicitor General Jose Calida and Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, the top government lawyers tasked by President Duterte to bring down Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV at all costs for being such a pain in the ass.

Thus, along with that blindly obedient judge who is probably looking forward to being appointed by Mr. Duterte to the Court of Appeals (or, heaven forbid, to the Supreme Court!)  because of his loyalty, Calida and Guevarra (never mind that he is supposed to be a bar topnotcher) should not only go back to law school and relearn jurisprudence, but to pre-law and relearn Logic 101.

Anyone with half a brain would see how really stupid and ridiculous it is to ask, say, a naturalized citizen to prove the correctness of the grant of naturalization in his favor by requiring him to produce his (in all likelihood, long gone) application for naturalization!
