Betraying the people’s will

It is very sad and so tragic to hear President Duterte express in public what he and ex-senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. seem to have plotted at the expense of the people’s wellbeing and welfare.

He indicated his desire to quit and abandon the presidency — for whatever reasons heaven only knows — in favor of Marcos, as soon as the latter wins his election protest against Vice President Leni Robredo.

This would practically wipe out the people’s high expectations of  and trust in President Duterte.

The President’s avid supporters, amid setbacks in the administration’s unrelenting drive for economic, social and political reforms, have learned to realize and understand that the gargantuan and highly complex problems confronting the country cannot be solved entirely during his administration.

But resigning and abandoning the presidency as soon as Marcos wins the electoral protest is an entirely different story and ball game.

To entrust the presidency to the son of a dictator who shoved the country into a state of total disarray and dragged it down a bottomless pit of moral, social, political and economic bankruptcy is tantamount to betrayal of public trust of the highest order.
