I am elated over the imposition of measures related to the protection of Boracay’s environment and the restriction on the “construction of new establishments” (“Boracay folk divided over new regulations,” News, 10/01/18).
Once is enough. The Boracay disaster that resulted in its closure must not be repeated anymore.
The splendor that Boracay was endowed with and what this island was noted for must be revived, if not totally, at least almost like its former pristine state as an island paradise.
It is understandable that Boracay has, for decades, provided employment opportunities. But like all other natural attractions, Boracay must never be subjected to abuse.
Boracay’s sustainability must be a top priority. The unfavorable reactions from the island’s residents on the new regulations manifest their focus on the income and profitability of their own business ventures, and not on the island’s sustainability.
