Suggestion for ‘second national anthem’ | Inquirer Opinion

Suggestion for ‘second national anthem’

/ 05:14 AM September 27, 2018

There was a suggestion by Sen. Tito Sotto to revise the ending of our national anthem because of — according to him — its defeatist note.

The “Lupang Hinirang” has a martial tenor, so the ending, for me, just fits well. This Julian Felipe/Jose Palma masterpiece should be left untouched.

May I suggest that we do make a secondary national anthem that offers a reflection of our current condition and features love of country, adherence to the rule of law, respect for people’s rights, beliefs, traditions and culture, etc.
