The editorial “Justice” (9/20/18) has given me the overview I needed to comprehend with clarity Jovito Palparan’s crime and conviction.
The journey to justice may have taken 12 long years since the abduction of the two UP students. Yet, its pronouncement in our troubled present days is a a strong signal that justice will be served, even at a later time.
If we have heralds of justice like Judge Alexander Tamayo, with his brave ruling to convict Palparan, and the unperturbed farmer-witness Raymond Manalo with his chilling testimony, justice will be served, and it will be handed down on those who truly deserve it.
Take Palparan’s words after his verdict as a gentle yet piercing warning, that guilty people in power should spend this waiting time preparing themselves for a life behind bars. Or, better yet, change the course of their lives while they still can.
Turn yourself over to the hands of justice or else its clutches will reach you, and place you behind those cold, unforgiving bars.
