Loyalty to the Constitution
Allow me to just echo what military chief Carlito Galvez Jr. recently told the Armed Forces: “I am reminding every soldier, airman, sailor and marine not to meddle or take part in partisan politics. Our loyalty is to the Constitution.”
If General Galvez uttered those words sincerely, then may our soldiers and policemen be steadfast in protecting and serving the people.
And may the counsel of the military chief reverberate in the “hallowed” Supreme Court every time it decides on cases, especially those involving sensitive “political” issues.
Otherwise, “loyalty to the Constitution” rings hollow.
May the rule of law always prevail, not the rule of a few. It is imperative to have in the government statesmen who can neither be bought nor intimidated, and whose options are limited to just two: do right, or be stricken by conscience forever.
