Responding to a news item that barangay offices would be accepting registration of voters whose registrations have expired because of inability to vote in past elections, my son and his friend went to Barangay Tandang Sora on Aug. 31. When they arrived at the barangay hall where the registration was supposed to be held, they were informed that REGISTRATION HAD BEEN CLOSED. It was only 11:15 a.m.!
The barangay office was supposed to be open up to 5 p.m. for these voters who wanted to register.
As they were about to leave the office, two young men arrived to register, and they were told as well that they could no longer register.
These two young men were shocked at the news. They had, in fact, just gone to Quezon City Hall to register, and they were told to proceed to the barangay hall of Barangay Tandang Sora for this purpose. But these Comelec/barangay personnel in charge of accepting registrants refused to register them without giving any valid reason other than that they were supposedly told to stop registration at that early hour.
Is this some kind of a joke—or, worse, a sinister plot? Perhaps a kind soul could initiate an investigation into this very obvious ploy, punish the guilty, and allow genuine voters to renew their registration so that they can vote in the next elections.
