We are with Sen. Franklin Drilon in believing that Associate Justice Antonio Carpio is not only the most senior and the best choice but, more importantly, a litmus test of President Duterte’s “palusot” move.
Amid public outrage over his appointment of Chief Justice Teresita de Castro, apparently as a “reward” for spearheading the ouster of her predecessor whom Mr. Duterte declared his sworn “enemy,” master spinner Harry Roque just barreled through with the canard that it was nothing but in obedience to the rule of seniority, with the assurance that the President will do the same in selecting the next chief justice.
Notorious for grappling everyday with the President’s mouthing one thing one day and another the next, Roque would have to do more contortions to weasel out of that nonsense at the end of De Castro’s very short term. Abangan!
