JBC should ‘stop playing dumb’

The editorial, “Batacan’t” (7/4/18), enumerates the most obvious reasons why lawyer Edna Batacan should never be nominated by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) for the post of Ombudsman, despite being President Duterte’s favorite candidate. We plead to all its members to read that piece a hundred times and stop playing dumb. Only they can prevent the travesty of justice that the President could not care less about.

Lest it be forgotten, it was JBC that caused all the mess in the appointment of Maria Lourdes Sereno. It greenlighted her application for chief justice despite her failure to submit the documents required to qualify for that post. All of them should have been held accountable for their egregious negligence. If only there was no bigger fish to fry then …

If the JBC plays dumb again with the application of Batacan who “damned herself with her own words” and puts her in the short list, heaven help us!
