Kudos to an upright man

05:03 AM June 25, 2018

I salute Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio for making a firm and strong stand on the quo warranto case against Maria Lourdes Sereno and on the issue of our territorial dispute with China.

Here is an upright man who knows what he is saying, what he is doing and what is at stake for him, and remains consistent in his beliefs and principles, fairly like the equally upright woman and the institution he has upheld.

He earned not only my admiration but also my highest respect when, declining any chief justice nomination, he said: “Because I have voted against it, I don’t want to benefit from it…”

He also said: “What is more important for the nation is that we preserve our sovereignty and sovereign rights… That’s far more important than any position. That’s far more important than the presidency. The President can come and go, but our sovereignity stays with us.”
