This refers to the call of Archbishop Socrates Villegas to the faithful to stand up against the “reign of murder and vulgarity” in the country, which is “slowly eating up our national soul.”
It comes off as stylish and attractive to be quiet, passive and submissive nowadays. Gone are the days when we whined, yelled and screamed in protest when we felt the government was shortchanging us.
These days, we find hilarity when our leaders sexually objectify women or black en the memory of the dead. Now, we wait day by day for whatever new scandal to rock the public domain. It seems we no longer think much or expect much from our current leaders.
I wonder what sort of evil has descended on our nation. Have we lost our moral compass, such that we have become victims of our seeming unwillingness to discern right from wrong, fair from unfair, just from unjust? We may have lost not only our national direction, but also the soul of our nation.
