How interesting to read that the Korean government has donated a number of vehicles to the Philippine National Police (“Korean officials turn over 130 vehicles to PNP,” 5/30/18).
Korean National Police Agency Commissioner Gen. Lee Chul-sung’s statement said the expectation behind the donation is “to be reinforcing the capacity of the PNP.”
Implicit in that, no doubt, is the hope that the boosted capacity of the PNP will include the punishment of the policemen who murdered Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo in 2016.
But knowing the way justice moves in this country, if it moves at all, that may remain a forlorn hope.
Local police authorities themselves have probably been hoping the Jee case just blows away, and that the public, and the Koreans, don’t stir up that particular can of worms.
Perhaps if PNP director Gen. Oscar Albayalde thinks some gratitude for the donation should be shown, he’ll move forthwith on punishing the criminal policemen.
