Quo warranto tips balance

One of the bedrock principles of our democratic institution is the separation of powers of the three branches of government.

And corollary to this is the independence of the Supreme Court, which in turn is anchored upon the justices’ security of tenure.

This is the beauty of impeachment. It is a very tedious and thorough process, a very daunting way to remove public officials, hence effectively protects their tenure.

Yet, against a truly abusive, incompetent or illegally appointed official, impeachment is a viable recourse.

FEATURED STORIES

These and only these should be the operative principles to hold the balance of separation of powers.

Should other legal actions like quo warranto come into play, it will throw our institutions into chaos.
