We could not help but sigh over the futile efforts of the numerous signatories to “A betrayal of democracy” (5/2/18), appealing to the conscience of the Supreme Court justices who gave due course to a patently baseless petition to remove Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
Can those justices really be that shameless as to “trample on the Constitution” so blatantly?
Be it remembered that practically the same hardcore justices who brazened it out in allowing a “hero’s burial” for the country’s most despised president are still in place to wreak more havoc on the justice system.
What are the chances that they would care about any public outrage should they decide to oust Sereno out of sheer spite and childish envy?
Being “supreme,” they can do whatever pleases them supposedly within constitutional limits — or, heaven help us, without!
Did the Filipino people who ratified the Constitution die already and made them the new tyrants and “lords of the realm”?
