I read Ma. Ceres Doyo’s Feb. 15 column, “Dead in the freezer,” while waiting at the bank.
The title caught my attention as I had just read an article about our fellow Filipino who spent a year in a freezer, lifeless.
I’ve been seeing this news on TV and it’s been making me sad. I had lots of questions in my mind: What have we ever done to them? Why do they treat Filipinos like trash? Why do they find it amusing to just hit them in the head, on the back, or in the body itself? Why do they rape them?
I didn’t find any answer and it has made me frustrated.
I’m a 22-year-old student intern and the fact that my friends don’t find these topics interesting or intriguing is just making me more infuriated.
I find myself helpless and useless on this matter since I cannot do anything about what’s happening in foreign countries, especially in the Middle East.
I just want to make our overseas Filipino workers feel okay and safe. But, clearly, I cannot do that.
I hope someone will make the change because I never want to see something like this happen again. Not anymore.
