Stolen vehicle was SSS’s service car, not prexy’s

09:12 PM September 01, 2011

This is in reference to the news item titled “Mom-son teamup nabbed for car theft.” (Inquirer, 8/23/11)
The report said: “Quezon City police nabbed Jasmin Liscano-Reyes, 33, and her son Mark Joseph Reyes, 16; and Arlene Datul-Juaniza, 42, but the alleged gang leader, Mark Lester ‘Mac’ Reyes, 34, Jasmin’s husband, was able to drive off with a black Toyota Fortuner registered in the name of Emil de Quiros, president of the Social Security System.”
Please allow us to make a correction. The stolen Toyota Fortuner is not the personal property of SSS president Emilio de Quiros Jr., but an SSS service vehicle assigned to him.
The vehicle is now under the custody of the Quezon City Police District Anti-Carnapping Unit in Camp Karingal, according to Alfredo Villasanta, SSS vice president for general services division. He said the SSS filed a motion for the release of the vehicle at the Office of the City Prosecutor in Quezon City on Aug. 23, and we expect it to be turned over soon to the SSS.
