In the Jan. 10 article, “Calida slams CA ruling on Reyes: ‘It stinks’, “Solicitor General Jose Calida minced no words in denouncing the Court of Appeals decision absolving former Palawan governor Joel Reyes in the murder of radio commentator Gerry Ortega. The CA was “clearly in the wrong.”
Inquirer’s Jan. 9 editorial (“CA justices’ strong dissent”) described such decision a “gross miscarriage of justice,” noting the clear presence of prima facie evidence pointing to the culpability of Reyes for the purpose of determining “probable cause.”
No doubt, the public, even relying only on common sense, shares those views.
This is one instance where the Supreme Court should go beyond what it normally does if the case is elevated to it for review.
It should not just reverse and undo the miscarriage of justice but, more relevantly, hold to account the justices themselves who made a mockery of justice and are seen as enjoying the “fruits” of their misdeeds.
Judges and justices who defy common sense in the discharge of their duties should be sacked! From the looks of it, it’s either they are so stupid or so corrupt!
