Hunger drove him to steal

This refers to the article, “I was really hungry that day, says clerk arrested for stealing can of corned beef” (12/18/17).

It is sickening to read news of somebody being jailed for a can of corned beef costing P31.50 considering that some

famous people stole hundreds of millions of public money and yet remain scot-free.

Under the law, what the boy did was false but sometimes we need to find truth in the false. Hunger drove him to steal. I think the embarrassment and humiliation he suffered is more than enough punishment.
