This is a sequel to my 5/4/16 letter, “President Quezon’s dream city: Lost showplace of the nation.”
In that letter, I voiced out the common problems of residents in ungated and unsecured communities located nearby or in-between a superhighway and informal settlement like ours. These problems include stray dogs, petty crime and burglaries, smoke-belching and roaring tricycles occupying the topsy-turvy road fronting our house, and nuisance music from nonstop karaoke.
Today, more than a year after, largely due to the weak and feckless or in some cases no-enforcement of the laws and ordinances addressing those problems, the same problems still exist. Worse, other peace and order problems cropped up like noisy and unruly street children.
If we aim to make Quezon City the “showplace” of the nation as envisioned by the late President Manuel L. Quezon, the city government must take a cue from President Duterte’s tough and uncompromising stance in enforcing the laws of the land. Then, and only then, can President Quezon’s dream come true.
