Opposing commentaries

To use the words of Rado Gatchalian, “in all honesty, it makes me cry” in his commentary published on Oct. 21, I’d like to add that it also made me laugh to read his “The Filipino greatness.”

I was appalled at the utter sycophancy he displayed, deifying President Duterte. What was risible was, while urging Filipinos to “rebuild” the country, it turns out he lives in Australia!

By contrast, it was edifying to read Quin T. Ataviado’s “Killing field” commentary in the same issue. In straightforward language shining with truth, he wrote of the horrid facts which assail all us citizens in our daily lives — the greed, pollution, hypcrisy, absence of civic spirit and general ugliness.

Let’s hope there are many more of Ataviado’s kind in this country to give us hope for the future.
