Mocha Uson has justified her dubious appointment to an “honorable” public office by insisting that her salacious past is already behind her, begging everyone to give her a break and just “move on.” But she has behaved otherwise on her blog and on a podcast where she was seen purveying softcore pornography, to put it bluntly. On one occasion, she was giving graphic lessons on how to masturbate; and on another, we saw her urging a male guest (a doctor) to touch her braless breasts underneath her flimsy shirt.
It seems old habits really die hard. Uson obviously misses the entertainment industry and the drooling adulation of the male population. She got together again with her previous group, the often provocatively clad Mocha Girls, to perform and cater to the prurient interests of men at the Resorts World Manila recently (“Did Mocha sing and dance at the casino? Boss asks,” News, 9/8/17).
Uson’s boss, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, said she sought his permission to “fulfill” a contract previously signed before she was appointed by President Duterte. Falling down from his high horse where he previously rebuked Philippine News Agency writers for their embarrassing faux pas in using the Dole pineapple company’s logo for an article on the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Andanar said he had no moral issues with Uson’s gigs except that, if possible, those should not be held in venues where there are casinos because of a legal proscription strictly applied to public officials and employees.
So, then, are we to expect the “honorable” Uson to keep doing the only kind of “performance” she’s “very good” at and has gained so much notoriety for? Alas, there is nothing in Republic Act No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees) that requires her — or even President Duterte for that matter — to be a model for “moral” uprightness.
