Duterte’s first year was a ‘whirlwind’

/ 05:00 AM July 29, 2017

The Duterte presidency has marked its first anniversary in office and, as in the time of his predecessors, reviews of the work done over the past year are inevitable. Many have conversed on or written about how the year turned out. More reviews will come, both praise and criticism. Certainly, praise for the striving and criticism for the tasks left undone.

I hope the President’s reaction to all these is to openly accept them. Be inspired by the praise and look beyond and learn from the criticism. This is the balance that he needs to take into account as he continues with his work.

As for me, Mr. Duterte’s leadership was, is and will be a whirlwind of “makes and breaks.” I hope for more of the former, as that will be good for our country.
