Terrorism is on the rise. And incidents of violent attacks directed by Muslims against Christians (who, together, make up well over half of the world’s population) and by Christians against Muslims are spreading around the world. Without peace and justice between these two religious communities, there can be no meaningful peace in the world.
Peaceful coexistence is the greatest challenge, and we must focus on creating an atmosphere conducive to it to counter terrorism. It is imperative for Christians and Muslims to heed the rising calls to respect each other, for peace and goodwill. There are enough common reasons for all Christians and Muslims—in fact, for all humanity—to stand together and join hands in pursuit of unity and peace—for man’s survival.
Both religions are founded on goodwill, not violence; and many of the fundamental truths revealed to Mohammad are also taught in Christian churches and by the Jewish prophets. Love of God and neighbor are two of the most important commandments of Islam and Christianity.
Under the Koran, Muslims are duty-bound to treat believers of other faiths with respect and friendship—and Muslims expect to be accorded the same in return. Indeed, both Christians and Muslims must continue to work together to promote unity, peace and justice for, between and among all peoples—through tolerance, respect and cooperation.
