This letter is in reaction to the statement of Bayan Muna Party-list Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate, calling for an investigation on the presence of the US military in Marawi City.
As a concerned Filipino citizen, it is very distressful hearing this kind of irrational complaint from a “public servant.”
If Representative Zarate is really concerned about the wellbeing of the citizens of Marawi, if he really wants to end the battle against the Maute terrorists, if he really is adamant that the Armed Forces of the Philippines should halt its airstrikes, then why is he so opposed to the United States extending technical support to our troops in Marawi?
I don’t see Bayan Muna providing aid of any kind to our gallant soldiers or relief goods for the people displaced by the conflict. Does Representative Zarate have any alternative solution to the conflict in Marawi? Maybe he should be there to face the terrorists’ firepower instead of criticizing our troops from air-conditioned offices in Manila.
I don’t think this is the kind of public servant we want to serve our country. A public servant who has a selfish motive, who wants to satisfy his group and allies’ hidden objective.
The citizens of Marawi, especially our displaced brothers and sisters, the soldiers, and the government need our support; and we should unite against terrorism instead of complaining and throwing adverse criticisms at the government.
