Rotating water interruption, rampant burglary, dark streets. These are just few of the many problems the residents of Gardenia Valley Subdivision in Bacoor City have to endure each day. And while the de facto homeowners association officials (with the brother of their leader acting as chief security) are too busy collecting toll fees and dues, the residents are being deprived of basic services like water, general safety and security.
Over the years, the struggle for leadership in Gardenia Valley has been both problematic and controversial as interested parties pursue their own agenda and private interests. Indeed, even a private subdivision within the smallest local government unit cannot escape bureaucrat capitalism, a plague in this country. And as always, it is the ordinary citizens who suffer most.
I wish I did not have to write about neighborhood issues, but the sheer ineffectiveness and blatant indifference of the present de facto leadership in control of the homeowners association of Gardenia Valley Subdivision has left me with no other choice. So as I write with the dark night covering the streets of our neglected neighborhood, let me quote the great Dylan Thomas: “Do not go gentle into that good night… Rage, rage against the dying of the light!”
