Most effective Manila mayor, but for the Baywalk promenade
Suffice it to say, Mayor Joseph Estrada is more effective as mayor of Manila than as president of the Philippines.
Why? Because as a city executive, he has done more than his previous predecessors, with the exception of the late mayor Arsenio Lacson.
Although he was ousted as president of the Philippines, he was able to redeem and endear himself to the people, especially to Manilans.
His major and minor accomplishments in infrastructure projects, such as the construction of concrete roads, parks, school buildings, market places, hospitals, are concrete proof of his urgent desire to change the physical landscape of Manila.
Credit should be accorded to him for transforming Manila into what it is today: a progressive and somehow live-able city as it was
But on the downside, vendors are still everywhere, especially along the Baywalk promenade along Roxas Boulevard.
Mayor Estrada should make the promenade a vendor-free zone.
