Why Duterte’s martial law can’t repeat abuses of Marcos’

A joint session of the House of Representatives and the Senate to review President Duterte’s decision to declare martial law in Mindanao would have been an exercise in futility.

Everybody knows that both chambers of Congress will simply junk any attempt to reverse any decision of the President.

Although I believe the exercise would have been just a waste of time and taxpayer money, still, it was needed for formality’s sake.

It’s water under the bridge now, let’s just rally behind our troops to restore law and order in Mindanao. I don’t think the police and military abuses during Marcos’ martial law reign will be repeated this time around. Too many eyes are watching.
