Two years ago today, against all odds, we miraculously snatched a forgotten mother from the gallows. We heaved a collective sigh of relief after we saved an innocent life victimized twice by poverty and policy.
Today as we look back, we must not lose sight of the reasons why the Mary Jane Velosos all over the world continue to be exploited. And we must vehemently condemn those who continue to be insensitive to her plight and would rather stop her from simply speaking the truth with the puny excuse of technicality.
We must implore mercy and humanity for her even as we seek justice. Let us listen to her narrative and bring her home already. From wherever we are and amid all the cacophony of competing events, we must not forget we still have a poor Filpino mother we have left behind.
